The head of Quicksilver surfing equipment brand Pierre Agnes went missing on Tuesday evening after going out to sea on his 11-metre motor yacht Mascaret III. In the early morning of January 30, the 54-year-old Frenchman was sailing alone in the AtlanticOcean near the resort town of Biarritz. He had intended to reach Cabertonand fish there. Later that day, Agnès contacted the Coast Guard and reported that he was postponing his return home due to heavy fog. By lunchtime, family and friends who couldn't reach him signaled a distress call. Concerns for the man's life increased when his empty overturned boat was found - it had drifted into Osgor Surfers Beach, north of Biarizza. The search for the yachtsman continues, with two boats and three helicopters involved.
Pierre Agnés, a former professional surfer, joined Quicksilver 30 years ago. In March 2015, he took charge of the brand. Shortly after his appointment, Quicksilver, which previously bought the DC Shoes and Roxy brands, was renamed Boardriders. A Quiksilver representative in France notes that Agnès was "an experienced sailor and had fished in the area many times." Pierre Agnès is survived by three children.
