Built in 1916, Silver Spray is a yacht with a long and illustrious history. She was built as the second in a series of 10 similar pilotage schooners whose hull lines were based on the famous schooner America, which gave its name to the famous Cup. The schooner served honestly as a pilot until 1927, when it was converted into a whaling vessel. Thus began her second life, most of which she spent in the polar waters of Novaya Zemlya, Spitsbergen and the Faroe Islands. There she was discovered by enthusiasts in the late 1970s. Then for a symbolic price of one florin she was bought by a Dutch fanatic who spent almost five years restoring the schooner. In 2010-11, the schooner underwent another major renovation, and at the end of spring 2012 was sold to an unnamed private individual for personal use.
