Modern marketing requires filling all possible market niches with its products. That's why large yacht builders now often lead their product line not 3 or 5 feet in length as they used to, but sometimes 1 or 2 feet in length. A typical example is the Jeanneau 44DS, which is only 1 foot shorter than its older sister, but has a completely different appearance. Some will find it more attractive, others will not - but there is a choice. The interior has also become more austere and geometrically clear. There is a small cheekbone at the stern, but given the low energy level of this purely cruising boat, it is a tribute to fashion.
