When Sir Thomas Sopwith ordered his personal steamer, he had no idea that in 1939 the army would confiscate his beloved yacht. Eight years later Philante was bought by the Norwegian authorities on the occasion of King Haakon's 75th birthday. After his majesty's death, the king's son Olav became the main participant in family and official cruises. During the renovation of the yacht in 1985, there was a fire on board. The vessel partially burned down and was immediately rebuilt and modernized. The boat is equipped with native MAN Bergen engines of 1,750 hp.
Previously this boat was called: Philante
