Vertigo is one of the newest and largest yachts built today. True, only the largest built in the Southern Hemisphere - but still. Today New Zealand (where Vertigo is built) is not just one of the most important countries in yacht building, it is a trendsetter in this field. The owner of the boat was very demanding and did not want just a "villa under sail", he wanted a very fast boat that would be suitable not only for the "yacht puddle" (the Mediterranean Sea) but also for sailing around the world, with a high performance not only on a sharp course but also on a full course. These demands demanded that Philippe Briand (the boat's designer) show his skills in designing fast yachts. Vertigo had a very powerful sail rig with a very large sail area (the masts had to be rigged with backstays, which was practically a first for a boat of this size). A very ingenious design of the keel is that it can be lifted to enter shallow bays and harbors, reducing the draft to 3.5m, but at the same time on a sharp course a daggerboard comes out, increasing the draft to 9m.
