About

History of Beneteau Yachts

The founder of the yachting company, Benjamin Bénéteau has been interested in boats since he was young. This leads us to the year 1884, when he started the production of fishing boats, first sailing boats, then motor boats in Croix de Vie (Vendée Province).

From 1928 onwards, his son André Beneteau developed the company. In the 60s, the grandchildren of the founder, Annette Bénéteau-Roux and André Bénéteau, began producing pleasure boats and sport fishing boats from composite.

The sailboats Forban, Galion, and Evasion 32 were in high demand. In 1974, they introduced Antares, a gliding boat, followed by the launch of the Beneteau First series in 1976, a boat designed by such yachting experts as André Mauric, Herman Frers, Philippe Starck, and Jean Berret.

In the 1980s, the company celebrated its 100th anniversary by opening a production site in the United States and becoming publicly traded. Later, in 1987 market got acquainted with Oceanis yachts by Philippe Briand, and in 1990 - with the monotype for offshore single-seater racing Figaro Beneteau 3, which in its recent reincarnation is equipped with foils.

Features of Beneteau Yachts

Beneteau brand is about large series production. Unlike the competitors, the shipyard in marketing research and thanks to its expertise reacts faster than others to the trends and the consumer's needs, emphasizing the practicality, comfort and comparative cheapness of its models. The reliability of the boats of this shipyard is generally high, although there have been tragic incidents in the past. However, given the production volumes, statistically, the frequency of such incidents on board the boats is not significant.
