Banque Populaire V postpones trying to win the Jules Verne Cup.

The world's largest 105-metre Banque Populaire V racing trimaran will not go on a round-the-world trip until late autumn 2010. This was stated by trimaran team manager Ronan Lucas.

In his opinion, as confirmed by skipper Pascal Bidegori and the navigators of the team, from late autumn 2009 until today, the weather has not provided the Banque Populaire V with a suitable opportunity to attempt to win the Jules Verne Cup. With the onset of winter in the southern hemisphere, the team is not ready to put itself and the trimaran at risk and decided to wait for a more suitable weather in autumn.

According to meteorologists and navigators of Banque Populaire V, this year's winter in Europe was particularly unfavorable for the round-the-world campaign. The transition of the low pressure zone, which is usually located much to the south of Britain at this time, signifies a weakening of the trade winds, whose strength is critical for crossing the Atlantic. One wonders how Frank Kamm managed to make it to the Cape of Good Hope and even further under these conditions, now maintaining about 200 miles of positive delta over Orange II?
