Designer description Luiz de Basto Designs

The history of the brand

The founder of the Luiz de Basto Designs studio, Luiz de Basto, joined the yachting business immediately after university in the 70s. At that time the industry was in the development stage. At first the designer was designing boats of 60-80 feet but, as the master says, he took his knowledge more from refit projects.

In 1995, Luis opened the De Basto studio in Miami, which has grown to become a world famous brand thanks to the talent and efforts of the master.

«We see every project we work with as a custom design, whether it's for a private owner or for mass production. This may be one of the reasons that each of our projects is different because we don't offer the same style or solution»," says Louis de Basto.

Specialization .

The company offers a full range of services, from sketches to technical documentation and project support at the yard. When designing interiors, the studio is also able not only to present the work on paper, but also to select the best materials for finishing and furnishing, to offer contractors and suppliers.

Cooperation with shipyards

The studio's portfolio includes over 200 boats designed for shipyards from 15 countries. De Basto Designs works with Oceanco, Turquoise, Burger Boat Company, Mondomarine and Canados on superyachts. From serial models the company designed flybridge boats for Intermarine, designer Astondoa, etc.

Landmark projects

One of the most spectacular boats was the DAR superyacht, the exteriors of her project looked so futuristic, it seemed that the boat would never be built. What is worth one superstructure, which the designers almost completely enclosed in mirror glass.

Luis de Basto is assisted in managing the studio by his wife Christina, with whom they participate in many projects.
