Category Description
Waterjet boats are equipped with a special type of propulsion system with jet propulsion, which is created by a jet of water ejected from it. The screw in this design is located inside the water cannon and does not protrude from the bottom of the boat, and the flow vector is controlled by changing the position of the nozzle of the water cannon and using a reversible steering device.
This provides the main advantages of waterjet ships: relatively low draft and the ability to navigate in rocky shallow waters (where the sandy bottom is worth using with care), reliable screw protection and safety for people, plus high controllability at high speed. Also waterjet boats have better dynamic stability and produce less noise.
They also have disadvantages, among which are high probability of damage to the impeller by foreign objects in shallow water, relatively low efficiency, a kind of behavior on small runs, as well as more expensive repair of the drive. The water cannons can be connected with standard outboard or stationary motors and have practically no restrictions on the length of the vessel.
