The Moskva River is to be thoroughly cleaned from pollution. The waterway will become suitable for swimming and fishing, Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov told «Interfax».
«A large-scale program for improving the environmental situation of the Moskva River has been prepared. In particular, it is planned to build 53 new sewage treatment plants along the river», - the media quoted the official.
Part of the purification facilities will be put into operation by 2018.
It should be noted that the authorities of the capital city have recently started to think how to develop the embankments of the city entrusted to them. For this reason, last summer an international architectural competition was announced for the development of the Moscow River banks. The winning project, created by the bureau «Project Meganom», envisages, among other things, cleaning the waters of the capital's main river.
