Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2019 highlights captured by Carlo Borlenga

The unqualified winner in the Performance division on the first day of the regatta was the 30-meter WALLY Magic Carpet 3. Should we be surprised? After all, this boat is one of the fastest in its fleet. «The magic carpet» immediately broke out and held the lead up to the finish of the 22.4-mile distance.

For cruisers, the route to the first was much shorter - only 15.5 nautical miles. The best in this division was the 50-metre Perini Navi Silencio, which overtook a fleet veteran, the gaffer schooner Mariette of 1915. Third place went to Quech ALLOY YACHT Q, the biggest boat in the regatta this year.

On the second day, Loro Piana held its first general start for the entire fleet. Teams from the Performance division had a chance to get unique and unforgettable emotions. The Cruising division was less fortunate - the boats started one after another as usual.

Performance boats from the fleet expected a 30.5-mile route, while Cruising expected a 24.3-mile route. Both divisions met off Sparjah Island. The best of the day were again Magic Carpet 3 and Silencio.

The day's rest and the 33.1 and 22.8 nautical miles races that followed did not affect the tournament table much. Magic Carpet 3 and Silencio were still in first place.

Meanwhile, it's time to take stock of the regatta. Second place went to 33-meter Vitters Inoui and Mariette of 1915, which «sat on the tail» of Silencio for all three days. «The 35-metre Green Marine Openseason and 48-metre Royal Huisman Meteor won the bronze» medal, losing fourth place to Q only once on the first day.

On 8 June, in honor of World Ocean Day, the participants and organizers of the regatta jointly cleaned up Mannena Beach. The races scheduled for this day were cancelled due to the weak wind.

World Ocean Day

By June 3, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (Porto Cervo, Sardinia) hosted 16 sailing superyachts from 25 to 52 metres in length. For the next 5 days, until June 8, the Loro Piana regatta was held here for the 12th time.

The competitors took part in two divisions, Performance and Cruising. In addition, for the 5 Southern Wind yachts competing in the Performance fleet, a separate Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy was held.

In total more than 800 people arrived to the regatta as organizers, participants, guests and service personnel.
