Company history

Hellenic Shipyards was founded by Stavros Niarchos in 1957 on the ruins of a shipyard destroyed in World War II. The company started with Greek Navy contracts and built frigates, boats and submarines. Later on superyachts, drilling rigs, specialized constructions for industry were added to them, and from 1986 cars for railway transport.

Status

In 2002 the company was sold to a group of German investors, and by 2009, due to the global economic crisis, massive cuts had followed. In 2010, the managing stake in the company was sold to Abu Dhabi MAR, which included the shipyard's facilities in Privinvest, and the Hellenic Shipyards brand stopped working.

Production .

The shipyard in Scaramangas was considered the largest not only in the country, but also in the entire Eastern Mediterranean: at the best of times it employed over 6000 people. The company owned two cranes, a ship-lift capable of lifting boats up to 70 meters, three assembly halls, berths with a length of 2500 meters, etc. The shipyard was the largest not only in the country but in the whole Eastern Mediterranean.

Fleet

In the private sector, the company implemented several projects in the 70-80s. These were semi-custom motor superyachts in steel from 24 to 116 meters in length. The two largest projects were commissioned by the owner Stavros Niarchos (116m Atlantis and Atlantis II).

Features .

Rich experience and high demands on the strength and safety of military vessels came in handy for superyachts. All the boats of the yard are of high quality assembly and many of them are still furrowing the oceans to this day.
