The European Powerboat of the Year award is presented annually as part of the Boot Dusseldorf yacht show. It covers all categories of boats and motor yachts except megayachts. ItBoat Magazine talks about the nominees for the 2019 award, last time we introduced readers to the boats up to 25 feet that made the short list this year. This article in the series will be dedicated to the nominees for the Best «Motor Yacht of 25 to 35 feet. Since yachts of this size are used mainly in warm seasons such as pleasure boats, the jury of the award first of all paid attention to their suitability for family holidays, design and habitability.

Buster Phantom Cabin

What happens if you take the hull from an open boat and add a cockpit to it? On the face of it, the idea is a bit off, but the renowned Finnish shipyard Buster has managed to marry «a reliable», proven aluminium hull from the Phantom cabin model. As a result, the company has created a serious marine off-road vehicle capable of working in both snow and heat...

The interior of the boat can be called Spartan, but this adds a touch of flavour, as if emphasizing that Buster Phantom Cabin is not a toy. The cabin received a panoramic glazing, which gives a 360-degree view. At will of the owner it is possible to install one or two outboard engines.

The minimalistic interior is functional without sacrificing comfort: the Phantom Cabin can accommodate up to 12 people on board and five on the bow. In the spacious cockpit, the passenger seats at the control station can be turned towards the table, thus increasing the number of seats in the dinette framed by an L-shaped sofa.

Beneteau Flyer 8 Sundeck

The new Flyer 8 Sundeck has an appealing modern classic style, combining light grey tones with black details and reverberations. The hull of the boat is designed according to Air Step 2 technology, which, in comparison with similar models of competitors, provides good handling, stability and high speed.

The Beneteau designers - as they usually do - have tried to use every inch of free space. The aft seat can be easily transformed into a spacious tanning area and there are many lockers and lockers throughout the boat for storing things and supplies. The boat also has a large ceiling height of 1.67 meters for boats of this size.

Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1095

Merry Fisher 1095, the largest boat of the famous line of outboard boats from the French shipyard Jeanneau, was presented in December 2017 at the exhibition in Paris. Outboard engine on a boat over 10 meters long? In the past this was unthinkable, but the possibilities of outboard engines have expanded over time and the Jeanneau has made good use of them.

The external units are easier to install and maintain, plus the Yamaha engines (which are used in boats) have reduced vibration and generate less noise. There is also space below deck that can be set aside for guests' needs. So the small boat boasts two or three full cabins.

Nimbus Weekender 9

Swedish Nimbus has decided to create a boat that combines all the best that has been realized at the shipyard before. Weekender 9 received a hull clearly resembling the legendary 26 DC and also inherited many interesting solutions from 21 DC, 32 DC, R-series and other models. However, it is impossible to name a new boat as a simple copy. The hull is similar to its bright predecessors, but was developed from scratch and has a modern stepped construction.

In the forward part there is a cabin for two people and a bathroom, and the galley, so as not to take too much space inside, is carried out. This arrangement becomes very convenient during anchorage. The boat comes with an outboard engine and a stationary engine of your choice, which is not so common.

Targa 27.2

The Finnish shipyard presented the third generation of its reliable boat, the Targa 27, which first saw the light in the early 90s. This «marine Range Rover», as it was nicknamed in England, was very popular. The new Targa 27.2 remains true to its original concept.

The boat has become slightly longer and wider, which has increased the comfort level. Flybridge became even more comfortable with the usual sliding doors of the salon, teak deck and seats. The model retains excellent running characteristics and can go out to sea even in severe weather conditions.
