A man was ferrying his 36-foot sailboat from Vancouver to eastern Canada through the Northwest Passage, but became trapped in the ice 40 miles from Barrow, Alaska. A U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker came to the yachtsman’s aid. Photo taken July 12.
