The Daily Mail obtained a photo of the wreck of Jennifer Appel’s previous boat, a woman who, with an inexperienced acquaintance and two dogs, drifted for five months in the ocean in a failed attempt to reach Tahiti from Hawaii. Ms. Appel’s previous (and first) boat crashed on rocks in 2012. “She bought a new outboard motor and picked probably the worst day to test it,” Appel’s ex-boyfriend Roman Kalinowski told the newspaper .– “The surf was three or four feet and of course her motor died as soon as she entered the channel, then one or two waves and – bam! – her boat on the reef. The woman crashed into the Magic Island cliffs at the west end of the famous Waikiki Beach . It was previously reported that Appel had “some experience with sailing boats.”
