Lürssen will invest €50 million in its two yards in Rendsburg and take on 130 people. Peter Lürßen made the development programme for the next two years public on 16 September, at the opening of Hall 3, a new building hall at the Rendsburg North site in Schacht-Audorf.
"Rendsburg is a strong part of our shipyard group, and it is to remain so for decades," Peter Lürßen said, in the German version quoted by the magazine BOOTE. "Our order books are full through 2033. This investment lays the ground for yachts to be built here after that as well."
The year 2033 is mentioned only in the German version. The English statement carried by BOAT International says the order books are "full for years ahead".
What the €50 million pays for
Hall 3 is the first finished piece of the programme. BOOTE calls it one of the most modern production facilities in the region. The rest of the list, as the yard gave it: a roof over one of the docks, an overhaul of a floating dock, a new canteen, and infrastructure work at both sites.
Lürssen has not published the hall's dimensions, the longest yacht it can take or the split of the €50 million. The regional daily Kieler Nachrichten writes that the programme runs until 2028, the only source that puts an end year on it.
Two yards on the Kiel Canal
Rendsburg is two Lürssen sites on opposite banks of the canal. Rendsburg North, in Schacht-Audorf, is the former Kröger Werft, part of the group since 1987. Rendsburg South is the former Nobiskrug, the yard that built Sailing Yacht A (142.8 metres, delivered in 2017) and Artefact (80 metres, 2020). Lürssen describes what the yard does as follows: custom yachts of 55 to 110 metres, plus refit work.
Nobiskrug became part of Lürssen after its own insolvency. It and its sister yard FSG in Flensburg, both under Lars Windhorst's Tennor Group, went into insolvency in December 2024; on 31 January 2025 the administrators sold Rendsburg to Lürssen and Flensburg to the Heinrich Rönner Group. German trade press reported at the handover that neither yard was operational, because of a heavy investment backlog. Lürssen has now put a figure on its plans for Rendsburg: €50 million.
Rendsburg North lost a hall two years ago in a fire that broke out on 2 July 2024. Inside was a yacht of about 75 metres, close to handover. The building burned for roughly twenty hours, and up to 420 firefighters took part. Both the yacht and the two-year-old hall around her were destroyed.
Full order books and a record delivery year
The 2033 date was given for the whole group, not for one yard: Lürßen spoke of "our order books", and those cover several yards in northern Germany. It delivered six superyachts in the first seven months of 2026, the most in its history, among them the 117-metre Boardwalk and the 102.4-metre Nixie, which goes on show at the Monaco Yacht Show on 23–26 September.
The programme comes half a year after Lürssen left naval shipbuilding: NVL, its naval arm of about 2,100 employees, went to Rheinmetall in a deal closed on 1 March 2026.
The same week in Italy, The Italian Sea Group, owner of Perini Navi and Admiral, passed the first deadline of its sale process on 15 September with 11 non-binding offers in hand; binding offers are due by 15 October.
130 jobs and the region
Lürssen gives no current headcount for Rendsburg, so the 130 hires come without a base to measure them against.
Ingo Sander, district administrator of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, called the 130 new industrial jobs a strong signal for the region. "Statistically, every industrial job secures around two and a half further jobs with suppliers and service providers," he said. "What is being invested here has an impact far beyond the shipyard itself."
Sander was at the ceremony with Rendsburg's mayor Janet Sönnichsen, representatives of regional business and the IG Metall union.
