Rolls-Royce Power Systems premiered a concept bridge for semi-custom yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026. The mtu NautIQ Bridge "Point Break" has displays that retract when the yacht is not under way, and the room then becomes living space for the owner and guests. The English press release of 24 September aims it at yachts of around 50 metres. The German version of the same release says up to 50 metres. So far there is no named shipyard, yacht, price or production date.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems is the Friedrichshafen-based division of Rolls-Royce that owns the mtu brand. Its yacht bridges come from its Italian bridge and automation unit.

How the bridge turns into a lounge

Point Break gives one room two jobs. Under way, it is where the captain runs the yacht. At anchor or in port, the displays retract and the space goes back to the owner and guests. In the German release's wording, the wheelhouse merges into the saloon. Rolls-Royce says the bridge stays fully operational in lounge mode and is ready for use immediately.

The release does not describe where the displays go or how long they take to come back. In the company's renders, vertical display columns stand on the floor, two screens hang from the ceiling and a strip of head-up display runs along the windscreen. The lounge render puts a round table with bar stools in the middle of the room, with sofas on either side.

Christian Paolini, Managing Director, Bridge & Automation Systems at Rolls-Royce Power Systems in Italy:“

Our customers are looking for ways to maximise onboard space without compromising safety or operational readiness. With Point Break, we have reimagined one of the yacht's most space-intensive operational areas to address evolving customer expectations.

”

What changes for the captain

Rolls-Royce redrew the bridge layout and gave it a new generation of control interface, meaning the screens and controls the captain uses to run the yacht's systems. The displays stand upright. According to the company, that saves space and gives the crew a clearer view of what is going on around the boat. A head-up display projects navigation data straight into the captain's field of view.

The release also lists two things that reach beyond the helm. The bridge has room for future AI functions that will handle the yacht's documentation. It is fully compatible with mtu NautIQ Foresight, the Rolls-Royce platform for predictive monitoring of engines and onboard systems.

How Rolls-Royce got into yacht bridges

The bridges come from Team Italia Marine. Founded in 2000, with sites in Fano, Livorno and Forlì, it had worked with Rolls-Royce since 2019 and was bought by it in 2023. At that point Team Italia had about 60 staff, and its systems were on roughly 350 yachts between 30 and 100 metres.

A year ago, at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2025, Rolls-Royce showed a production mtu NautIQ Bridge for series yachts of 30 to 40 metres. Point Break moves the same idea up a size. A major order for the bridges has already come from Overmarine, builder of Mangusta yachts. According to the trade magazine Powertrain International, the two companies signed a framework contract in June 2026 that runs from 2026 to 2029. It covers NautIQ bridges and 30 propulsion systems with 64 mtu Series 2000 engines for new Mangusta Oceano yachts.

Lukas Köhler, Senior Vice President Global Marine and Mining, Rolls-Royce Power Systems:“

As part of the mtu NautIQ ecosystem, the concept further reinforces the company's ‘From Bridge to Propeller’ approach, in which propulsion, energy management and automation work in tandem.

”

In practice, "From Bridge to Propeller" means a shipyard buys engines, power management and automation from one supplier as a single system. On the same day, Feadship presented Hive, a 115-metre concept that drops the conventional wheelhouse altogether and is run from a virtual command centre fed by cameras. Rolls-Royce keeps the bridge and hides its screens when the yacht stops.
