Princess Sophia Cup

The major regatta Trofeo Princesa Sofia MAPFRE 43rd edition started on Spanish island Mallorca. It gathers all Olympic boats as this regatta is one of the stages of the World Cup in Olympic sailing classes. This regatta is a very important moment for our team.

Firstly, it is a test of crews' preparation after winter training camps because this Cup is the first big competition of the season. Secondly, this regatta is a stage of selection for the Olympic candidates. Thirdly, this competition is the last big race before May World Championships in corresponding classes where we can try to win the missing Olympic licenses (for example, in 49er and 470 classes).

As a result, 31 crews in Olympic and two more in Paralympic classes landed on Mallorca. So far, however, after four races, the results of our athletes do not give us much reason to be optimistic. In 10 best yet enters only Igor Lisovenko from RUS 7 (Laser class) who improves his results from race to race, and the crew Ekaterina Skudina takes the fourth place during the draw of the first round-robin. For example, in men's 470 class the best of our crew(Sheremetev brothers) is still only 43rd. To be honest, it is not very interesting. However, the regatta has just begun and a lot may change.
