1990 Bayliner 4588 Pilothouse

Seller's Description

1990 Bayliner 4588 Pilothouse Motor Yacht "Konakai" Beautifully Redesigned Interior • Outstanding Liveaboard • Twin Hino Diesels Step aboard “Konakai” and you quickly discover that this is not a typical 1990 Bayliner 4588. Her owners are interior designers and approximately 20 years ago undertook an extensive redesign of the salon and pilothouse. Their goal was to maximize the considerable interior space of the 4588 while creating a layout and feel more reminiscent of the later Bayliner 4788. The result is a warm, welcoming and functional interior that will likely be one of the biggest reasons to consider this boat. Custom cabinetry and built-in drawers maximize storage throughout the salon and pilothouse without making the space feel crowded. Leatherette Settee, stylish chairs, granite countertops and high-end integrated appliances give the interior a comfortable residential feel that is unusual aboard a yacht of this vintage. For someone looking for a liveaboard, floating cottage or spacious coastal cruiser, Konakai offers a tremendous amount of boat and living space. A leatherette settee provides generous seating, complemented by additional lounge chairs and warm wood cabinetry throughout. Numerous custom-built drawers and storage areas allow for practical storage for extended time aboard. There is a beautiful solid wood expandable table that could easily seat 7+ for a meal or games night. Granite surfaces and thoughtful details give the salon a warm, residential feel. A small, stylish electric fireplace/heater adds both warmth and ambience, while a separate bar fridge is conveniently located for entertaining. The inviting salon that feels considerably more contemporary than you might expect when approaching a 1990 yacht. A GALLEY MADE TO INSPIRE The galley is incorporated into the main salon, creating an open and social layout while still providing a well-defined and highly functional cooking area. With apartment-size appliances and generous storage, the galley is well suited to both entertaining and extended cruising. The main refrigerator is integrated into the cabinetry, maintaining the clean appearance of the surrounding woodwork. This is a three stateroom boat that comfortably sleeps 6. Forward is the master stateroom with a queen-size island berth, generous storage and an ensuite head with separate shower/bath tub. Immediately aft and to port of the master stateroom is stateroom that offers flexible office and additional sleeping area. The space works well as a private office when living aboard but can also be converted to two single bunk berths when additional sleeping accommodations are needed. Wood doors allow the area to be completely closed off from the master stateroom for privacy. Aft of the bunk room, there is an additional stateroom that offers double accommodation with storage and drawers. Across the hall there is a second head with shower provide making the layout particularly practical for extended cruising, guests or living aboard. Several steps up from the salon is the enclosed pilothouse with excellent visibility and additional seating, while the enclosed flybridge and upper aft deck provide another comfortable entertaining area outdoors. POWER & MACHINERY Konakai is powered by twin Hino 220 HP turbo diesel engines driving straight shafts through Hurth transmissions. A significant amount of mechanical maintenance has been completed recently, giving the next owner confidence in many of the boat's major operating systems. • New engine risers (2026) • Heat exchangers removed and cleaned (2026) • New main-engine exhaust hoses • New main-engine impellers • New main-engine fan belts • Dripless stuffing boxes / shaft seals installed (June 2023) GENERATOR & ELECTRICAL The Onan diesel generator provides reliable AC power away from the dock, while the Magnum Magna Sine inverter and large battery bank make Konakai especially practical for liveaboard use. • Generator exhaust system replaced • New generator water pump and belt (July 2025) • 10 new AGM house batteries (May 2026) • New 8D starter battery (May 2026) • 30-amp shore power • Magnum Magna Sine inverter / charger HEATING & COMFORT A Hurricane diesel heating system supplies warm air throughout the vessel, making Konakai well suited to year-round cruising and living aboard on the West Coast. Combined with the enclosed pilothouse and enclosed flybridge, she offers comfortable accommodations in all seasons. GROUND TACKLE & TENDER Konakai comes equipped with substantial cruising equipment already aboard. • 40 kg Rocna Anchor with 300ft of chain • Lofrans electric windlass • 2011 10'6" Apex RIB with Console • 2011 25 HP Nissan outboard ELECTRONICS The boat retains an older generation Garmin electronics package along with VHF radios at both helm stations. Everything is functional, but buyers may wish to modernize the navigation electronics over time as part of future upgrades. CONDITION Konakai is not being represented as a cosmetically restored Bayliner 4588, and that honesty is reflected in her presentation. The exterior shows her age and there are areas of deferred maintenance that the next owner should expect to address. There are known soft spots in portions of the deck, the radar arch while structurally sound has been covered with vinyl on the underside and there are cosmetic areas on the exterior that would benefit from attention. The navigation electronics are also older. What makes Konakai compelling is that while exterior projects remain, considerable money has recently been invested in the mechanical and electrical systems. The interior has been thoughtfully redesigned into a warm, functional living space that is unlike most Bayliner 4588s on the market. For the buyer looking for an affordable 45-foot liveaboard with exceptional interior space and the opportunity to improve the exterior over time, Konakai offers tremendous value. YACHT BC YACHT SALES Konakai offers one of the most inviting interiors you will find aboard a Bayliner 4588. If your priority is comfortable living space, practical storage and a yacht that already feels like home, this is a boat that deserves to be seen in person.
