The bright, aggressive Sunseeker Predator 84 is available in two versions - with "normal" shaft drive or with partially submerged Arneson screws. According to the shipyard, in the first case the Predator 84 will accelerate up to 35 knots, in the second case the maximum speed will be 42 knots.
Both options are impressive, considering that the boat weighs almost 60 tons. The use of partially submerged screws eliminates the cavitation problem, which becomes relevant for fully submerged screws at speeds above 40 knots - the screw starts to corrode and rapidly collapses. However, the Arneson drive has other advantages - other things being equal, the ship's draft is reduced, vibration is reduced and the yacht's control becomes more efficient.
Sunseeker believes that the Predator 84 is not for the faint of heart, and certainly not for those who want to save on operating costs - at 30 knots, it eats 22 litres of diesel per mile.
Its predatory image does not prevent the Predator 84 from remaining a cozy seaside home - the interior of the boat is exquisite and along with thethe more laconic, the sports flybridge is large enough and the garage accommodates not only a high-speed tender but also other water toys ready to be launched at any time.
