«Kruzenshtern», one of the largest sailing ships in the world, was involved in an incident off the island of Fano, Denmark. On Monday, August 4, the vessel sank the tug Diver Master.

The tug was helping «Krusenstern» out of the harbor and was attached to it with steel cables. Just as the sailboat began to detach the cables, one of them got stuck and dragged the tug toward the vessel. The tug tilted, filled with water and began to sink. After a while it went completely underwater, to a depth of 10 meters.

The tugboat crew members were rescued, none of them was injured.

Investigation into the cause of the incident has been launched. The scene is being closely monitored to prevent fuel leakage from the wreck (there were about 3,000 liters of fuel on board). The Diver Master is expected to be raised from the bottom as early as this week.

Update. According to photographer Valery Vassilevsky, who witnessed the incident, the sailboat captain is not to blame. « What happened, as it always happens in such accidents, is only the result of negligence, firstly, of those who put the boat to work with our monster, and secondly, the total disorder in the actions of the two tugs (it is clearly seen, when the small one tries in vain to pull the bow of the sailboat, the big one does not even try to hold the stern), and thirdly, where was the pilot, who was supposed to control the whole situation», he wrote on his Facebook page.
