French yachtsman Loïc Peyron won the Route du Rhum transatlantic singles race. The athlete managed to arrive in Havedeloupe, setting a new record of 7 days, 15 hours, 8 minutes and 32 seconds. The previous race record was set in 2006 with 7 days, 17 hours and 9 minutes.

Peyron raced on the 31.5m trimaran Maxi Solo Banque Populaire VII, covering a total of 4,199 nautical miles at an average speed of around 23 knots.

The athlete, now 54 years old, is not new to racing: before his triumph in 2014, he had participated in the Route du Rhum seven times, his best result being fifth place.
