Indonesia interested in boat tourists

The Indonesian government has decided to make the country an attraction for yacht owners and is preparing a number of bills aimed at attracting private and cruise ship tourists to the region. The plans will be implemented as early as next year.

According to Jakarta Post, the government should simplify the process of obtaining permits for mooring in the country's ports (it will be possible to register a watercraft in just one day). It is also planned to allow long-term mooring of foreign vessels (up to one year). These and some other measures are to double the number of yachts coming into the country - up to 1500.

The officials are confident that yachting could boost the state economy and create jobs for local residents.

«Yacht owners have high purchasing power, and our country has everything to attract them», a Tourism Ministry official told the media.
