Mark Turner will succeed Knut Frostad , who stepped down as head of the world famous Round the World regatta in February. He will take up the position from June 7 this year.

Prior to his appointment as CEO of Volvo Ocean Race, Mark spent 23 years as head of OC Sport, a company specializing in sports marketing. OC Sport is the owner and founder of the Extreme Sailing Series.

«It is a great responsibility for me to take over the leadership from Knuth, who has done so much to make the race the biggest and most commercially viable event in major league sailing," commented Turner on his appointment. - The race, with its global media reach and serious weight in the business with such a rich history, brings responsibilities not only to the many shareholders, to Volvo and other partners of the event and the participating teams, but to the sport of sailing as a whole. This is the kind of platform that can really help sofrm the future of sailing».
«It has been a long and thorough process, but I am confident that in Mark we have found the right person to take on this very challenging role," said Henry Stenson, Chairman of the Volvo Ocean Race. - We needed someone with the experience, motivation and vision to take the event to the next stage in its development, following the great work that Knut has done. Mark has all these traits in abundance. The future of racing under his leadership looks very promising».

Mark Turner is a seasoned sailor, having competed in the 1989 Volvo Ocean Race himself and served as manager and thought leader of the Dongfeng team from 2014-2015.

During his sporting career, Marc has also taken part in the Transat Jacques Vabre and Mini Transat, but he first gained fame as manager of Brit Ellen Mc'Arthur during her participation in the Vendée Globe in 2001, when the athlete managed to finish second.

After founding OC Sport, the 48-year-old Briton has gone on to organize a number of sporting events, most famously the Extreme Sailing Series. To work on the Volvo Ocean Race team, Turner left OC Sport completely, disposing of his share in the company's share capital.
