Last week one of the largest sailing yachts in the world, the 106m Solar, was rolled out of the Oceanco dock in Alblasserdam. Superyachttimes photographers took some photos of the superyacht, also formerly known as Black Pearl.
Not much is known about Solar yet. The 106m Oceanco exterior design is by Nuvolari & Lenard with the naval architecture by DykstraNaval Architects. The interior volume is 2,700 gross tonnes.
For example, the two-masted Aquijo launched by this shipyard has been designed in collaboration with Vitters.
Solar is expected to use solar energy extensively, as her name suggests. Solar is expected to reach a top speed of 18.5 knots thanks to three 200ft DynaRig masts, like those on Maltese Falcon. Solar will accommodate up to 12 guests in six staterooms. The yacht will be ready for delivery to the owner by early 2017.
