St. Petersburg «Battleship» will debut in RC 44 class with fully Russian line-up

Bronenosec Sailing Team of Saint Petersburg Yacht Club in RC 44 class will compete in the new season with almost entirely Russian line-up. The exception will be New Zealander Cameron Dunn, tactician and coach of the team.

Long-time «Bronenecosse» permanent members - bowman Alexey Kulakov, trimmer Viktor Serezhkin, grinder Egor Terpigorev, trimmers Vladimir Ikonnikov and Pavel Karachov will be joined by St.Petersburg yachtsman Kirill Frolov, successfully competing in SB20 class for many years. He will make his debut as helmsman of the team. Egor Ignatenko, famous Russian yachtsman, will be a manager of «Battleship». Also a number of Russian yachtsmen will be selected for the vacant crew positions.

«Increased participation of Russian yachtsmen is a long-term strategy of the yacht club which will make 2017 a turning point, - says Vladimir Lubomirov, Saint-Petersburg Yacht Club commander. - Great experience of the team in RC44 class allows us to move to the next level. We expect that strengthening the line-up with Russian yachtsmen will improve communication and the general mood of the crew. After all, we all compete under the Russian flag!»

The first training camp of the renewed crew will take place from April 4 to April 9 in Valencia. The baptism of fire for all-Russian «Battleship» will be the first regatta of RC44 Championship Tour 2017, which will be held on April 27-30 in Sotogrande resort, Spain. It will be followed by stages in Porto Cervo, Marstrand (World Championship), Cascais and the series finale on the island of Lanzarote.
