«Tavatuy» Pavel Kuznetsov became world champion in Melges 32 class

Russian team «Tavatui» Pavel Kuznetsov with Evgeny Neugodnikov as tactician became world champion in Melges 32 class. The team also includes Konstantin Besputin, Egor Konyukhovsky, Oleg Krivov, Alexander Patrushev, Anton Sergeyev and Valery Zatsarinsky.

The team under the Russian flag for the first time in history has won the world title in the Melges 32 class.
«We know that perhaps our team was not among the favorites in this championship. But we pushed ourselves in the first race, which in the end allowed us to get to this final. We knew we had enough speed. We made the right tactical decisions one after the other, and we realized more and more that we could really get that title», commented his team's victory, Pavel Kuznetsov.

Out of ten races «Tavatui» we won two and came second three more times. Until the last race, the reigning European champions of the Melges 32 class, Edoardo Lupi and Massimo Pessina of Italy and tactician Lorenzo Bressani on Torpyone fought against the Russians for the championship. By the final race, Torpyone was only two points behind» « Tavatai, but still the world title eluded them - for the second time in the last three years. Rounding out the top three was another worthy Italian team, Edoardo Pavesio's Fra Martina with Manuel Weiller Vidal as tactician.

Although Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio with tactician Branko Brcin was only fourth in the G.Spot World Championship, this Monegasque team is in first place in the overall standings of the 2017 Melges 32 World League. The World Championships, held from August 2 to 26 in Cala Galera, was the fifth and final round of the World Leage. By contrast, the World Champion «Tavatui» is in third place in the overall League standings.
