The Nord Stream Race 2017 Baltic Open Sea Regatta came to an end yesterday. Russian yachtsmen were the first to arrive to the shores of Kronshtadt in the fourth and final stage of the competition.
The Swedes came third to St. Petersburg.
The second place according to the regatta results as well as in the final 4 stages was taken by Finns. Mixed crew of Nyländska Jaktklubben which consists of both beginners and experienced competitors has never been out of the three leading positions after 2 weeks of competitions.
The Germans who were in the lead in Copenhagen arrived in St. Petersburg as the fourth, and took the third place in the general offset.
For the Russian crew the regatta was uneventful. The competitors had to find the secret of the speed of their new boat for a long time, but the victory in the final stage confirmed the potential of the yachtsmen.
According to the words of the skipper Maxim Taranov, the crew is especially glad that they won in St. Petersburg. During the whole distance each team visited their countries but only Swedish and Russian crews were first to come to their home countries.
The last place in the regatta went to the Danes. Unfortunately, due to technical problems the Frederikshavn Sejlklub team had to reach the Russian port by land.
This year, the Nord Stream Race has expanded its geography and covered five countries. Having started in German Kiel on 25 August, the fleet of the regatta visited Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, and finished in St. Petersburg on 6 September.
