The Solar1 Monte-Carlo Cup 2014 will be held for the first time in the waters of the Principality of Monaco from 10 to 12 July 2014. «The event will be sponsored by the ruling Casiraghi dynasty and hosted by the Yacht Club of Monaco». 25 teams from different countries will race over three days.

«Over the last decade the solar energy industry has been growing strongly worldwide and requires a sporting event of an adequate scale. We are proud that the Solar1 Monte Carlo Cup will, for the first time, bring together and represent all those who work to create the energy of the future»," said Sergey Dobroserdov, CEO of Solar1.

The races will take place in three classes, A Class, Open Class, and V20, which are distinguished on the basis of the technical characteristics of the boats, the number of photovoltaic cells, and the crew.

Among the participants of V20 class there are teams from Russia (HEVEL) and Ukraine (VALDIS). They will compete on V20 boats developed by Vripack from the Netherlands. The boats are 5.8 meters long and have the speed up to 30 km/h.

The «class A» accepts boats with a maximum length of 6 metres with four solar panels and a maximum power output of 1,750 units. Open class allows boats up to 8 meters long with unlimited number of solar panels and unlimited power output.
