Andrew Simpson's memory honoured by 30,000 sailors

More than 30 thousand yachtsmen took part in the charity race in memory of Andrew («Bart») Simpson.

According to the BBC, the event called Bart's Bash held on September 21 in 60 countries(including Russia) with the support of 500 yacht clubs, brought together 30,717 people. The competitors raced 16,870 boats and crossed 87,072,769 meters.

The organizers of Bart's Bash called the race the most massive in the world.

Besides participants of the event were able to collect about £290 000 in donations. The money will be donated to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.

Recall that Andrew («Bart») Simpson, Chinese Olympic champion and London Olympic silver medallist, tragically died in 2013 while preparing for the America's Cup «» and was survived by his wife and two children.
