Exterior
*Space* represents one of the more unusual entries in Feadship's build history: hull 796, launched in 2007, and the first of six F45 Vantage motoryachts — a semi-custom series that gave Feadship a rare opportunity to explore what the yard could do in the 44-metre bracket without the timeline and cost of a fully bespoke commission. The concept was built around volume: De Voogt Naval Architects and Sinot designed a hull that delivers an exceptional amount of interior space for 44.65 metres, aided by a 9.20-metre beam and giant windows running the length of the superstructure. The result is a boat that reads larger from inside than the exterior dimensions imply. She was built by Royal Van Lent and holds Lloyd's environmental protection compliance, with grey and black water treatment and a large black water holding tank for zero-discharge zones.
At the helm
The wheelhouse was designed around panoramic visibility — a deliberate priority on the F45, where enjoying the cruising experience from the bridge was treated as seriously as the accommodation below. Five screens (two radars, conning, electronic chart, and monitoring) sit within a completely flush dashboard alongside bow thruster and engine controls, with minimal deck-wall displays. On *Space* specifically, the room immediately behind the wheelhouse — offered variously as an extra guest cabin, study, gym, or captain's cabin on the other five F45s — was specified as a private office.
Performance
Twin MTU 12V 2000 M70 engines deliver 788 kW each at 2,100 rpm — approximately 1,055 hp per side — with two Caterpillar C9 generators providing onboard power from within a sound enclosure. Top speed is 15 knots; range 4,500 nautical miles on 40,100 litres of fuel. Zero-speed stabilizers and a large-capacity watermaker are fitted. The 2.70-metre draught keeps the options open across Mediterranean and Caribbean anchorages. These are the characteristics of a yacht built for extended ocean passages rather than weekend runs — capable, self-sufficient, and designed to be comfortable at the speeds that actually cover distance.
Below deck
Interiors are by Donald Starkey Designs. The accommodation deck carries four guest staterooms for eight guests; below that, the lower deck is the operational core of the yacht. The engine room, Feadship's description of it notwithstanding, is finished to the standard of the spaces guests see — everything accessible, everything considered. Forward of the engines, a fully functional galley sits on the port side, with food lifts serving every level. Opposite is the crew mess, finished in ash wood with cherry trim. Crew accommodation runs to a captain's cabin, four crew cabins, and a dedicated laundry room. The F45 carries nine crew in total.
On deck
*Space* departs from the other F45 hulls in how the main-deck aft section is handled. Where the series uses continuous teak flooring to visually unify the aft deck patio with the lounge, the first owner specified a dark whitewash teak indoor floor to break that continuity — and extended the sliding glass wall partition further onto the aft deck, making the aft section of the lounge a dedicated indoor dining area while keeping the outdoor views through the glass. The sun deck above is laid out for outdoor living: a fixed Jacuzzi surrounded by sun pads anchors the space, with a dining table for six, a wet bar, fixed seating under the canopy, and room left over for personalisation. On *Space*, the owner added sun loungers throughout.
Layouts
The lower aft deck carries a boathouse sized for a custom-designed tender. The tender is handled via a winch rather than a crane — a necessity given the depth of the stern platform — with the platform itself pivoting below horizontal to act as a slipway. When the tender is launched and the platform extended, the yacht gains almost four metres in effective length at the waterline, opening into what the F45 concept describes as a private beach. The boathouse can alternatively be converted into a gym with steam room and bathroom when the tender is stored ashore. In 2024, *Space* — now sailing under the name *Sport* — returned to the Feadship Kaag yard for a comprehensive refit.
