Atlantic, built in 2010, is an exact copy (replica) of the famous schooner Atlantic, built in 1903 and for a long time held the record of crossing the Atlantic - at first absolute, then only for single-hulled vessels. The latter held for over 100 years - an unprecedented case in the history of sailing speed records. The new yacht was built under the personal supervision of her customer (and the initiator of the whole idea), a Dutch entrepreneur, owner of a construction company specializing in building restaurants and cafes, Ed Kasztelein. This sailor became an enthusiastic collector and restorer of classic yachts 30 years ago and has a collection of eight original or replica classics, including the Atlantic.
Atlantic, of which no authentic blueprints exist, was designed from photographs, of which Ed has assembled a great many. Likewise, the replica's interiors are designed using colonial style photographs (mahogany and milk-colored furniture). Bronze was used instead of stainless steel for the winches and fittings to make it more similar to the original.
The only noticeable difference with the original yacht is the missing retractable chimney on the replica.
