On June 6, the Russian team «Armadillo» was the first to cross the finish line in Helsinki.

The European Union team was second with a gap of 3 minutes. The German team came third. The race started on June 5 from St. Petersburg.

Sergey Borodinov's team was in the lead from the very start of the first stage of the Nord Stream Race, but the team's result was protested by its rivals.

The protest was filed by the German team. The reason was alleged incorrect overcoming of the exclusion zone marked in the Race instructions «Armadillo».

The protest committee found irregularities in the protest procedure and rejected the protest.

«According to the GPS tracking data, our team and the opposing teams covered almost the same distance. This may indicate that the requirements of the sailing instructions were understood by us in the same way as by the other teams - commented the skipper of Armadillo Sergey Borodinov, - i.e. we were ready to examine the protest on the merits and accept any decision of the judges».

Despite the fact that the first leg of the Nord Stream Race is a relatively short one, on the way to the Finnish capital the fleet encountered the most diverse weather conditions, from calm to 25 knots of wind. A few hours before the starting signal, the air temperature dropped below 10 degrees, there was a squall with hail, and a breaking wave rose on the water area.

The start of the second stage of the race, Helsinki-Varnemune, took place in Helsinki the same day at 18:00 local time. According to the Russian team's navigator , Vadim Mikhailov, there is warm weather with light wind in the Finnish capital, so the speed of the fleet is low at the start of the second leg.

The Nord Stream Race fleet is expected to finish in Varnemünde on June 9-10. You can follow the race in real time on the official website using theGPS tracker.
