A representative of Russian oligarch Andrey Melnichenko, the owner of 142-meter sailing yacht «A», has debunked rumors that the giant sailing yacht cannot leave the Baltic Sea because of its size. He called the rumors preposterous and the media «ill-informed».

In a comment given to the Boat International website, Melnichenko's representative described the route the sailing yacht «A» will take to her owner in 2017.

«Sailing Yacht A will pass through the Drogden Strait, where vessels are limited to 8.3 metres draught. When fully loaded, the yacht has a draft of 8 metres, but when lightly loaded it is reduced to 7.5 metres»," he said.

The German Internet media reported that the sailing yacht «A» was supposed to sail under the Øresund Bridge, but because of its size it will not be able to pass through there. The megayacht's passage through the Drogden Strait is also blocked because the height of its masts would prevent the nearby Copenhagen airport's control service from operating, German sources said.

As it turned out, neither of these is true. The sailing superyacht «A» was originally designed to pass through the Drogden Strait. A route under the Öresund Bridge was never in the plans, project director Dirk Kloosterman said. As for the Drogden Strait, all yachts with a surface area greater than 40 meters are required to give the airport 24 hours notice before crossing the Strait and another half-hour notice to be allocated slot time. Sailing yacht «A» with a height above water of 100 meters is no exception.

Built at the Nobiskrug shipyard in Kiel, the sailing superyacht «A» will break several records when she is delivered to her owner in 2017. Her carbon masts by Dykstra Naval Architects are the largest in the world and are designed to withstand a category 2 hurricane.
