Andrei Melnichenko's sailing yacht «A» has left her berth at the Nobiskrug shipyard in Kiel, Germany, for further sea trials in southern Spain. She will be handed over to her owner in late spring 2017.

Local media claim that the Russian billionaire paid €417 million for the giant 142.81-metre motosailer.

The 14,224-ton steel megayacht is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system. Her two diesel engines each have 4,800 hp and her two electric engines each have 4,300 kWh of power. Her three enormous 91-metre high carbon fibre masts carry sails that are the same total area as a football field. The sails unfold and retract at the touch of a button. Cruising speed is 18 knots with a maximum speed of 24 knots.

The eight decks of the mega-yacht «A» will be able to accommodate up to 20 guests. The yacht requires a crew of 54. On board there will be a huge swimming pool, garage for cars and tenders, helipad, underwater boat storage and - on the lowest floor - observatory where guests will be able to watch the sea life from behind a huge piece of glass 17.9 square meters in size and weighing 1.8 tons.

The interior volume of the motosailer is 12600 BRT, 4.6 times the volume of the second largest sailing yacht after «A» - Project Solar.
