Southampton Boat Show 2017 spectators were the first to see the largest single-masted wooden yacht project since the Shamrock V was created in 1930. Once built, the 34m sloop Spirit 111 will become the flagship of the British shipyard Spirit Yachts.

The elegant exterior design is by the in-house design team at Spirit Yachts and Synolo Design.

She will be a high-performance sailboat by both cruising and racing standards. And with her hydraulic sail control system, the experienced owner will be able to sail with family and friends without a professional crew.

The interior of the Spirit 111, designed by Rhoades Young, can't be confused with that of other boats as there are no straight lines, all walls are rounded, and the interior spaces flow from one to the other.

Design highlights include floating floor beds surrounded by wooden cocoons, glazed soffits in the salon and two curved cockpit lounges that transform into large daybeds.

«Spirit 111 is an incredibly important project. A single-masted, owner-operated wooden yacht of this size is nothing short of a feat of engineering. And when coupled with her exquisite interior design, she will be a truly spectacular sight to behold one day on the water»," said Spirit Chief Executive Officer and Chief Design Officer Sean McMillan.

»Against the backdrop of some of the world's largest, fastest, «1 , «,», «, and quirkiest», the trend for eco-friendly boats is gathering momentum, and it's encouraging to be part of the trend. So in the case of Spirit 111 not only has the owner decided to have a mega-yacht mainly equipped with sails, but he has also ordered 160 kW Torqeedo electric engines powered by four BMW i3 lithium batteries that can be recharged while under sail.

The boat is being built in wood-epoxy composite on a stainless steel frame and will comply with RINA standards. The boat will see the light of day in summer 2019.
