The catamaran Orange II is one of the most famous multihulls in the world. It was built in 2004 specifically to set the absolute record for a non-stop round the world voyage with a full crew, to be led by the famous French captain Bruno Peyron. The haste in building the Orange II led to the fact that the first two attempts had to be aborted due to serious damage in the forward parts of the hulls - where the carbon fiber plating began to delaminate. It was not until the third attempt that Peyron's crew succeeded in setting a world record for circumnavigating the globe for 50 days, 16 hours, 20 minutes and 4 seconds. This record, set in 2005, was able to last until 2010.
