Kurt Brothers Marine Prenses Lila Overview
The Prenses Lila is a typical Turkish gulet, a particular national type of sailing vessel, derived from the French term "goulette" for sailing vessels armed with schooners (however, there is also a version of derivation from the Venetian "galiota"). These are vessels (mostly of wooden construction), armed with schooner or kechem, with a high sharp bow, wide hull and rounded stern tip. In the past, they were built in large numbers to carry various cargoes along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, later used by fishermen and sponge fishermen, today gulets are built and operated as motor-sailing vessels intended exclusively for recreation. The Prenses Lila is built in teak and mahogany, using classic wood-building techniques and modern methods of wood preservation, so the builders are confident that the boat will last for decades to come. Since gulets are most often operated under the engines, the designers paid special attention to the noise insulation of the engine room, making Prenses Lila one of the quietest in its class of sailing vessels.
