Southern Wind Kiboko Overview
"An experienced helmsman at the helm of this boat will have a smile from ear to ear," were the words Southern Wind's commercial director Andrea Micheli's greetings to Kiboko on her maiden voyage. In 30-knot winds with a reefed mainsail and petite jib, the 52-ton boat reached speeds in excess of 20, entering the surf mode. When the wind dropped to six knots the boat steadily kept eight. The low displacement, well-conceived keel and rudder profiles, and large sail area are the key to her high speed capabilities. The construction of the interior of the yacht is interesting: all details are made in the form of sandwich constructions on a honeycomb (!) filler. The interior itself is a harmonious mix of light wood, natural fabrics, leather, charcoal and polished stainless steel. The result is the prestigious Nautical Design Awards 2011 for yachts over 24 metres. Another distinctive feature of the yacht is its extremely high level of noise insulation, which has been repeatedly noted by experts.
