The French shipyard was founded in 1989 by Jean-Claude Audrey. The very first RM900 model of this shipyard was made of epoxy-soaked plywood and reinforced with a metal structure from the inside. In 1995 shipyard turned for design and engineering to Marc Lombard, well known for working on winning racing yachts. As a result, he designed a smaller RM800, which retained the key features of the older RM900. In other words, reliability, speed and stability. In the late 90s, Lombard offered RM Yachts a very original design for the 35' RM1050, which was a huge success with more than 100 units sold in the next ten years. In 2002, the company became part of Groupe Fora.
Over the next six years, production at the shipyard has increased by almost six times. New models RM1200, RM880 and later RM1350 were introduced. The 2008-2009 crisis forced the yard to look at the business differently, resulting in RM Yachts paying more attention to the boats' exterior design and fluid dynamics.
RM YACHTS HAVE NEVER SLOWED DOWN.
The new RM1060, launched in 2010, was a resounding success for the post-crisis year. In 2013 the RM1260 won the European Yacht of the Year award. Therefore, the brand sold 30 hulls of this cruiser in two years. Four years later, it was the turn of RM970 to win the same award. As a result, by 2015, the company had a turnover of €6.5 million. In 2017, RM Yachts moved into new premises, setting a new impetus for production.
Actively participating in the boat shows and proudly giving new looks and features to their best-selling models.
The brand is based in the suburbs of La Rochelle. The yard, covering an area of 5,400 square metres, can produce 45-50 yachts per year.
RM Yachts manufactures offshore cruising yachts with a LOA of 8-13 metres. When it comes to naval architecture, the company still cooperates with Marc Lombard Design Group.
RM yachts are unique family cruisers. That is to say, everything onboard is set up in its unique way: the plywood with epoxy impregnation and steel frame in the hull, the fibreglass composite superstructure, Bermuda rig, reverse tilt of the stem, a long bowsprit. The yachts come with one or two keels and one or two rudders. While the keel can be lifting, or fixed. The shipyard offers many fresh interior solutions such as almost circular superstructure glazing.
