Company history

The Viking Yachts brand came into being in 1964 when Bob & Bill Healey bought a small 37-foot sports and fishing boat manufacturer, Peterson-Viking Yachts.New Jersey . and started servicing, repairing and upgrading boats. The company did not produce its own yacht immediately: the 33' Viking 33' Convertible was launched in 1971. She was the first model to be built entirely in GRP.

The success of Viking Yachts brought the Viking 40' Convertible, released a year later, with more than 600 yachts sold in 16 years.

The company was constantly growing up until 1990. This decade has brought an unpleasant surprise to many businesses in the form of a luxury tax. So Viking reduced its staff from 1,500 to 80 people. To keep the firm afloat, the brothers invested their money. In parallel, Bob launched a powerful campaign to repeal the tax, which bore fruit in 1993. After that, the shipyard regained lost ground fairly quickly and even outperformed many competitors.

Since its inception, the shipyard has launched more than 4,000 semi-custom yachts, becoming a world leader in fiberglass hull boats.

Now the president of the company is Patrick Healey, son of Bob, continuing the family business.

«Viking Yachts' goal is to produce the best and brightest boats every day," he»says.
