Company history

Henningsen & Steckmest Yacht and Dockyard (Scalar Yachts) was founded in 1958. The company's founders, Hans Jürgen Heningsen and Franz Steckmest, were already experienced craftsmen at the time and their first order was a 15 metre Viking passenger boat for a local transport company on the River Schlei.

A year later, Henningsen & Steckmest built its first sailing boat, the Scandinavian traditional boat Kairos. In the '60s, her companions built several boats according to the serial designs of the Danish Slaby Larsen and the Scandinavian Kairos.KR-yachts . designed by the Bremen architect Anton Miglitsch.

The company did not have a full production facility until 1964, and contracts were sealed by a handshake.

In the 70s, Rolf Steckmest joined his father's business - he studied abroad for a long time and in 1973 created the sailing Scalar 28 for his shipbuilding exam. The yacht was a success and was made of wood and then fiberglass. More than 28 hulls were built and in 1979 the first regatta was held on these yachts. The Scalar range was expanded while the yard continued to build custom motor yachts.

In 2006 the architectural firm Nissen/Laboe was involved in the design of the Scalar 40. In 2008, the Scalar-Speedster, an examination work by Malte Steckmest, was born.

Production .

The office and production facilities of the company are located in Kappeln in northern Germany. Besides yacht construction and repair, the shipyard offers winter boat storage services (the company has premises of more than 3300 sq. m.) and chartering of Scalar yachts on the Baltic Sea.

Model range

Henningsen & Steckmest Shipyard under the Scalar brand produces semi-custom sailing yachts in glass composite hulls 31-40 feet long. Her portfolio includes classic yachts and protected cockpit yachts.

Scalar-Speedster motorboats are also available in a Fiberglass hull with a wooden finish. The company undertakes the construction of yachts on individual projects, including wood.

Features

Scalar yachts have classic exterior and interior features. At the same time, a Scalar owner will be able to enjoy sailing on a wooden yacht without the accompanying difficulties typical of wooden hulls. For each model, the shipyard offers many options for equipment and finishes. Customers can visit the shipyard during open days or individually.
