Company history

VDL Shipyards was founded in the Dutch city of Valveik in the 80s. The company produced its own luxury yachts and has also worked with Dutch design studio Vripack since the mid 1990s.

In the same years the company also worked with the famous Dutch shipyard Wim Van der Valk.

From 1995 to 2000 VDL Shipyards produced the VDL Pilot 38, Pilot 44 and Pilot 50 series. In the same years the company developed its famous 16-meter luxury yacht 1600 Royal.

According to some sources, VDL Shipyards was taken over by Wim Van der Valk in 2001, which is located in the same city of Valveik.

VDL Shipyards had its own production facilities in Valveik in the southwest of the Netherlands. VDL Shipyards used steel in the construction of its boat hulls.

Range of yachts

The VDL Shipyards range is based on the VDL Pilot series of motor yachts with steel hulls ranging in length from 11 to 14 metres. The company also produced displacement yachts, and the most remarkable model of the shipyard in this class is the VDL 1600 Royal, which was equipped with two Volvo Penta TAMD63L-A engines and could reach 30 knots.
