Hardy 42 Hybrid Overview
The new Cockwells version of the Hardy 42 offers an intriguing blend of traditional British cruising design and modern hybrid technology. This vessel caters to long-range cruising, meeting the needs of owners who plan to navigate both European waterways and open seas.
Deck Layout
The exterior of the Hardy 42 features a robust and seaworthy design, perfect for extensive voyages. A bathing platform and sturdy Simpson davits are positioned at the stern, facilitating easy handling of the tender. The transom steps lead to the main deck level, equipped with stainless steel fender baskets and large, accessible storage hatches.
Flybridge and Helm
Wide side decks with secure stainless steel rails enhance safety and ease of movement around the boat. The bow area is equipped with heavy-duty mooring gear, including a Samson post and a Delta anchor. Four solar panels on the deck maintain the boat's systems, ensuring the batteries remain charged. The raised aft deck offers a sociable space with a solid table and ample seating. Steps lead to the flybridge, which features additional seating, helm seats, and a design that allows the windscreen and mast to be removed for navigating low bridges. The helm includes a combined electric and main engine throttle control, and systems are managed through digital touch screens.
Interior Design
Inside the saloon, the high-quality woodwork reflects Cockwells' craftsmanship. A manual television lift, well-stocked fridge, and abundant storage highlight the space. The engine room, accessed via gas-sprung struts, houses a 440 horsepower diesel Yanmar engine and a 20-kilowatt electric motor. This hybrid system enables quiet, fuel-efficient cruising at around six knots, with batteries providing two to three hours of use and a generator for quick recharging.
Living Quarters
The galley, located below the saloon, is equipped with an induction hob, domestic oven, washer dryer, and full-size fridge freezer. Ample storage and modern conveniences make it ideal for long-term living aboard. The forward VIP cabin features a V-shaped berth, substantial storage, and ensuite access to the day heads. The aft cabin includes an island berth, more storage, and an ensuite bathroom with a separate shower.
Combining traditional engineering and modern technology, the Hardy 42 Hybrid is a sturdy, well-designed vessel. It handles rough seas and offers quiet, fuel-efficient cruising, making it an excellent choice for long-range voyages and exploration of coastal and inland waterways.
