Briton to sail around the world on a torpedo-shaped yacht

A British yachtsman plans to sail around the world in a motorboat and set a new world record. Alan Priddy hopes to cover the distance in less than 60 days, 23 hours and 49 minutes. The voyage is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2015.

By that time, Team Britannia sailors will have finished building the 80-foot boat, «torpedo-shaped» design will help her «pierce» waves. The cost of construction is estimated at £2.9m.

The hull will be made of aluminium with a fuel reserve of 7,700 gallons of emulsion fuel. The projected maximum speed of the vessel is 34.4 knots with average speed of 22.5 knots.

Aboard the speedboat, in addition to the author of the idea, Alan Priddy, will be seven crew members. They will start near Gibraltar, pass through the Suez and Panama Canal, cross the Tropic of Cancer, the equator and finish where they started. During the voyage, 10 refueling stops will be made.

Alan Priddy is an experienced navigator. The 61-year-old voyager holds 37 world records. « This project is the culmination of my life. I hope it will showcase the abilities of our team - the best sailors, engineers, shipbuilders and designers in Britain»," says the sailor.
