The only instance in Russia of a Lister-bot, a Norwegian sailing and rowing ship of the 19th century, will be restored by specialists from the Norwegian Coastal Heritage Museum.
Lister-boat was presented in 1872 to inhabitants of Sumskiy Posad village of Belomorskiy district of Karelia by Grand Duke Alexey Alexandrovich, son of Alexander II.
Plans to restore the historic boat have existed since the 1980s, but have not yet been implemented due to lack of funds. In 2017, the Belomorsk Pomeranian Culture Centre sent a request to Norway to help with the repair of the lister-boat. The Norwegian Coastal Heritage Museum responded to the call.
«The boat in the village of Sumskiy Posad is a unique object. Not only because it has its own unique history. The fact is that there are only three such vessels left in Norway itself - the homeland of lister-boats. Our museum has a wooden ship restoration workshop and experts. We are interested in international cooperation in boat restoration; we are already working with Iceland and the Faroe Islands. We will be glad to start working with Russia», - said Magnus Norum Skoglund, Director of the Norwegian Coastal Heritage Museum.
In summer 2017, museum specialists will inspect the ship and outline a plan of action. The work will be financed within the framework of the Russian-Norwegian project «Friendship without borders».
