In 1985 Jack Charles established the Crescent shipyard, which over the next 15 years has become one of the largest shipbuilders in Canada. In the early 2000s the company was sold to a group of investors. The new owners of the shipyard made many mistakes in management and could not build a single boat. This is how the company would have fallen into oblivion if it weren't for Jack's grandson Tim Charles. He set up his own company Platinum Marine and, first of all, after Crescent closed production, bought the shipyard previously owned by his grandfather and hired a staff that was left unemployed. The company began providing boat maintenance and repair services.
In 2015 Tim had the opportunity to purchase the rights to the Crescent brand, thus regaining full control of the family business.
The company's factory is located in Richmond and covers an area of 42,000 square meters. It has six assembly and repair shops. The yard's capacity allows working with vessels up to 60 meters long. The site is also used to build another brand of Platinum Marine - Tactical Custom Boats.
The yard's portfolio consists of steel and aluminium semi-deck superyachts. In 2019 the company laid the keel of the largest boat, the 50m Crescent 164. The vessel became the largest not only for the shipbuilder, but also for the whole country.
The main advantage of the shipyard is its people. Many specialists have been working in the company since its foundation, and have been building and designing Crescent vessels literally all their life. That's why customers come back here for their second or even third boat, knowing exactly that the shipbuilder will meet all expectations.
