About

Company history

The Norwegian company Viksund was founded in 1966 by Erling Viksund. This family-run production, originally based in an old barn in Bergen, was one of the pioneers of fiberglass shipbuilding in Norway. In the 70s, the shipyard became one of the leaders in this industry in the country. In the 80's Viksund experienced difficult times, but was able to recover in the next decade by focusing on motor yachts. However, in 2012, against the backdrop of unfavourable market conditions, the company was forced to declare bankruptcy.

Production

The shipyard, which was located on the island of Askøy, had a team of 70 people, annual production was about 80 ships.

Model range

Viksund yachts are fiberglass gliding yachts with 9-12m flybridge and Volvo stationary motors. The main models are Viksund 320, Viksund 340, Viksund 360 and Viksund 390, where the number means length in feet multiplied by 10.

Features

Viksund boats were designed to operate in the harsh Norwegian climate, so they are in demand in northern countries with difficult sea conditions, including Denmark and Iceland.

The company was one of the first to pay attention to the environmental aspect of shipbuilding and to abandon the use of rare tropical types of wood. In particular, any model of the company could be ordered in a version without their use.
