Perini Navi YAM2 Overview
The P2 is the first Perini Navi yacht designed by renowned fast sailing yacht designer Philippe Briand. The client wanted the yacht to be well accelerated and maneuverable in calm weather, but fast and well steerable in strong winds. This vision was based on the owner's experience of owning a 53m (Perini Navi) Perseus, on which he had completed a four year round the world voyage and participated in numerous high seas regattas. The high-speed qualities of the yacht are achieved thanks to the moderate displacement and the use of water ballast (total capacity of seven thousand liters on each side) with a moderate weight (only 29 tons) of ballast in the bulwark and a large sail area. The low displacement is achieved by using ultra light and exotic materials: PBO as standing rigging and titanium in fittings and fittings. The relatively short length of 38 meters was chosen by Briand for the following reasons: it is the maximum length at which the use of drum (and not rack and pinion) winches and direct manual steering is still possible. It is also, in the designer's opinion, the maximum length at which the boat is still able to maneuver easily.
