Company history
Royal Huisman Shipyard was founded by Jan Huisman in the small Dutch village of Rondöyte in 1884. The company started with the construction of small wooden fishing boats. By the mid 50's the company had switched to the production of steel sailing yachts.
When Yan's son Wolter Huisman took over, he decided to switch to a modern material, aluminum, and launched a new range of 30 foot boats Van de Stadt Avenir.
The introduction of new technologies and the collaboration with the renowned New York design studio Sparkman & Stephens in the 70's have allowed the yard to make a name for itself on the world stage and bring fame to international yachting competitions.
In 1984, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the shipyard, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands awarded the company with a royal diploma. It was after this significant event that the company received the Royal prefix.
Nowadays the shipyard specializes in the construction of custom sailing superyachts and also in the maintenance and repair of boats.
Production .
The company's production capacities are concentrated at two plants - in the Dutch city of Volenhove and in Emden, Germany. The total area of the shipyards is about 330 000 sq.m., where more than 300 qualified specialists with experience in working with all modern materials, including wood, work.
Royal Huisman's headquarters are located at the site in Volenkhov, and soon the company will launch another plant, which will be located in Amsterdam. The shipyard will be located at the former Holland Jachtbouw facilities, thus adding an additional 12,000 sq.m. of capacity.
Fleet .
Royal Huisman's portfolio includes premium aluminum sailing superyachts from 30 to 81 meters in length. Among the boats of the shipyard it is difficult to find two similar models, each sailing ship is unique in terms of style and has its own history.
In 2017 a keel of 81-meter schooner was laid in Volenkhov, which will become the largest aluminum boat in the world. The model of the yacht was presented at the exhibition in Monaco, the launch is planned for 2020.
Features
The company does not plan to remain only in the sailing yacht segment, especially since it already has experience in building and refitting motor boats. The next step in the development of Royal Huisman after the launch of the new shipyard in Amsterdam will be the development of motor superyachts.
